SEGA and RGG Studio delivered one of the most unexpected announcements of Summer Game Fest 2026, confirming that STRANGER THAN HEAVEN
will feature Tupac Shakur as part of its cast. The action-adventure
title is scheduled to launch worldwide on January 15, 2027, and is
already positioning itself as one of SEGA’s most ambitious projects in
recent years.
A major reveal at Summer Game Fest
The announcement took place during the Summer Game Fest 2026 livestream, where SEGA of America and RGG Studio showcased new additions to the cast of STRANGER THAN HEAVEN. Alongside the official release date reveal, attention quickly shifted to its eclectic lineup, which blends real-world music artists and actors into the game’s narrative universe.
Following the trailer presentation, RGG Studio head Masayoshi Yokoyama confirmed the January 15, 2027 release date on stage, marking a key milestone for the project.
Shortly after, Snoop Dogg joined Yokoyama on stage, highlighting Tupac’s inclusion as a new character named Amaru. Snoop Dogg also appears in the game as Orpheus and contributed to the original theme alongside Satoshi Fujihara, Ado, and Tori Kelly, who also take on roles within the game’s story.
Tupac Shakur takes on the role of Amaru
In STRANGER THAN HEAVEN, Tupac Shakur appears as the character Amaru. According to SEGA and RGG Studio, the inclusion has been developed with the approval and ongoing supervision of Amaru Entertainment, ensuring careful handling of his legacy.
The developers also confirmed that the character is being created without the use of AI, instead relying on archival footage and photographs to shape his design and representation.
Further details about Amaru’s role in the story will be shared at a later date, though his presence is already positioned as a key narrative element within the game’s universe.
A cast that blends music, film, and gaming
Beyond Tupac and Snoop Dogg, STRANGER THAN HEAVEN features a wide-ranging cast that includes several established Japanese actors:
- Takashi Ukaji
- Yasukaze Motomiya

The mix of international music icons and veteran actors highlights RGG Studio’s continued push toward cinematic storytelling that blends multiple entertainment industries into a single experience.
