PlaySport has revealed the first details on Motorsport Manager 2, highlighting a revamped race simulation, localized weather and expanded mod support. The sequel will also introduce bikes and a more dynamic world for drivers and teams.
🏁 Rival Teams Will React to the Race
One of the biggest changes is how AI teams handle strategy. In the original game, rival teams largely followed a pre-planned approach, with major changes usually triggered by events such as safety cars. Motorsport Manager 2 will instead have teams continuously evaluate what is happening on track. Pit sequences, undercuts and overcuts, fuel, tyres, traffic, car condition and weather can all influence their decisions. Driver pressure is also being reworked. Wheel-to-wheel battles will increase pressure, while running in clean air will reduce it.
🌦️ Weather Can Change Across the Circuit
Weather will no longer simply affect an entire circuit at once. Motorsport Manager 2 will simulate weather systems moving across the track, meaning different sections can have different conditions during the same lap.
- Different parts of a circuit can be wet or dry at the same time.
- Weather systems will move across the circuit.
- Wet racing lines can gradually change as conditions develop.
- Drivers can move offline to manage tyre temperatures.
- Grip can change as track conditions evolve.
- Running unsuitable tyres in wet conditions increases the risk of accidents.
This will also affect tyre strategy, as teams may need to decide whether changing to intermediate or wet tyres is worthwhile while only part of the circuit is affected by rain.
🛠️ Mod Support From Day One
Mod support is another major focus for the sequel. PlaySport wants players to be able to add tracks, vehicles and championships, with Steam Workshop dependencies potentially allowing different mods to work together. The developers described this as part of a broader goal of making Motorsport Manager 2 a platform for different forms of motorsport. Christian, an established Motorsport Manager modder, has also joined PlaySport as a designer.
🏍️ Bikes Join the Motorsport Lineup
Motorsport Manager 2 will add bikes as a new motorsport category. The developers said the system is still in development, noting that managing bikes presents fundamentally different challenges from the GT and endurance racing featured in the original game. The sequel will also expand the driver development side of the game with junior series and karting, allowing drivers to progress through different levels of motorsport. The developers also discussed the possibility of teams developing their own driver academies.
🌍 Drivers Will Have Their Own Relationships and Opinions
The sequel's world will be more dynamic, with drivers and other characters having opinions, relationships, desires and moods. More championships will also exist outside the player's direct control. PlaySport wants these systems to create stronger connections between players and their teams, with events during a career feeding into the relationships and stories surrounding the team.
🔧 Building on the Original Game
PlaySport describes its approach to the sequel as "evolution, not revolution", with changes intended to improve the original formula rather than replace it. The developers also confirmed that the long-standing blue flag issue from Motorsport Manager has been fixed. Drivers in the sequel are expected to properly obey blue flags. The developer diary series is planned to continue at least monthly, with future episodes set to explore more of the game's systems and address questions from the community.
