Ace Combat 8 Reveals New Story Trailer and Annihilation Battle Mode

Bandai Namco has released a new story trailer for Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve, offering another look at the conflict between the Federation of Central Usea and the Republic of Sotoa. The trailer focuses on the crew of The Endurance, their lives during the ongoing war, and the battles that await them in the skies.

📖New Story Details

Players will face enemy ace squadrons, including the Sotoan Air Force's elite Shadow 22 unit, while leading the Joker Flight under the legendary "Wings of Theve". The campaign will also feature a variety of massive superweapons capable of threatening entire battlefields, adding another layer of danger beyond traditional dogfights.

✈️Annihilation Battle Returns

One of the biggest announcements is the return of Annihilation Battle, a fan-favorite mission type that gives players considerably more freedom in how they approach their objectives.

In one of the missions showcased by Bandai Namco, players must counterattack Sotoan forces and destroy a series of targets, including a solar power plant, oil tanks, an air base and an ammunition depot. Rather than following a predetermined sequence, players can decide which targets to attack and in what order while managing their remaining time and ammunition.

🎮Chain Destruction

Ace Combat 8 also expands the mode with a new chain-destruction system. Destroying certain objects can trigger secondary explosions and damage nearby structures. For example, hitting an oil tank can cause a larger explosion that takes out surrounding buildings, giving players additional reasons to carefully plan their attacks.

Supply lines will also play an important role during these missions, allowing pilots to return and replenish their weapons before heading back into combat. This combination of target selection, ammunition management and environmental destruction should make Annihilation Battle more strategic than simply eliminating targets as quickly as possible.

📅Release Date and Early Access

Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve will launch on October 2, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam. Players who purchase the digital Deluxe Edition will receive three days of early access beginning September 29.

The game is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious entries in the series, combining the traditional high-speed aerial combat with larger-scale battles, destructible environments and a more cinematic campaign.
