Metro 2039 Announced with First Gameplay Trailer, Launching in February 2027

June 08, 2026

4A Games unveiled a nearly three-minute gameplay trailer for Metro 2039 during the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7, 2026. The footage, captured entirely in-game, introduces Hunter as the franchise's new fanatical Führer and confirms a February 2027 release on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.

Hunter: From Spartan Hero to Tyrant

Once a legendary high-ranking ranger within the Spartan Order, Hunter has remade the Metro in his image. The trailer reveals he now rules as Führer, washing the tunnels in lies and propaganda to gain absolute power. The protagonist, known only as The Stranger, was once part of that same Order – now left in ruins. Driven by anger and hatred, The Stranger vows to make the Führer burn, chastising Hunter's hypocrisy at every turn.

What the Trailer Shows

The three-minute premiere focuses on classic Metro pillars: claustrophobic stealth-action, tunnel and surface exploration, diegetic survival elements, and striking graphical fidelity. New gameplay details include:

  • The Shatun – a new stealth weapon designed for quiet, close-quarters elimination.
  • A new breaching charge added to your arsenal, letting you force entry into fortified areas.
  • Both underground tunnel sequences and bleak surface exploration.

No exact February date has been announced beyond the month-long launch window.
