Developed by Bandai Namco Aces Inc. using Unreal Engine 5 and a proprietary tech they’re calling system “Cloudly,” Wings of Theve promises to be the most visually stunning entry in the franchise’s history. Early access kicks off on September 29, 2026 for Digital Deluxe Edition holders, while the full global launch follows on October 2, 2026. You can pre-order right now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam in both Standard and Deluxe flavors.
A Story About Survival, Hope, and the Joker Flight
The new release date trailer gives us our best look yet at the campaign. Set in the war-torn Strangereal, the Federation of Central Usea (FCU) has been occupied, its military left in shambles. You step into the cockpit as the legendary “Wings of Theve”—a symbol of resistance named after the FCU’s capital. You won’t be flying alone, though. Your squadron, the aptly named Joker Flight, consists of three distinct allies:
Together, you’ll face the vicious attacks from the Republic of Sotoa in an emotionally charged story about identity, duty, and reclaiming your homeland. Bandai Namco also confirmed that online multiplayer modes are on the way, with more details promised closer to launch.
Pre-Order Perks: A Classic Returns
Here’s a pleasant surprise for long-time fans. Every pre-order of Ace Combat 8 includes a digital copy of Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War, available on launch day. The 2006 classic is still considered a franchise high point, famous for its Ace Style gauge system that shifts the story based on your combat choices. That’s a solid get for both nostalgic veterans and newcomers curious about the series’ origins.
