DLSS 5 Is Already Running in Control Thanks to a Mod

Modders have managed to bring experimental DLSS 5 Neural Rendering support to Control, giving GeForce RTX 50-series owners an early look at NVIDIA's upcoming neural rendering technology ahead of its official release. The project, Control - RR and DLSS 5 - RenoDX, is available through Nexus Mods and was created by modder speedlemur. It combines DLSS Ray Reconstruction support with experimental DLSS 5 Neural Uplift functionality.

🧠Neural Uplift Comes to Control

The experimental implementation allows Neural Uplift to be applied primarily to characters, with options to adjust parameters such as tone, structural detail, skin detail, and the intensity of the neural processing. The mod also adds DLSS Ray Reconstruction to the game. However, the project does not include NVIDIA's proprietary DLLs. Users must provide the required DLL files separately, meaning this is not a standalone DLSS 5 implementation. Neural Uplift requires a GeForce RTX 50-series GPU and NVIDIA driver 616.56 or newer. The current implementation also has some limitations when HDR is enabled.

📈Significant Performance Impact

Early testing shows that the experimental neural processing can have a substantial performance cost. In a 4K test using a GeForce RTX 5070 Ti, performance dropped from 71 FPS to 35 FPS with Neural Rendering enabled. These figures should not be considered representative of the final DLSS 5 implementation. The RenoDX project is unofficial and experimental, and its performance and image quality may differ considerably from NVIDIA's final release.

📅DLSS 5 Is Coming This Fall

NVIDIA plans to officially launch DLSS 5 in fall 2026. Until then, projects such as RenoDX are already giving PC players an opportunity to experiment with the technology before its official arrival.
