PlayStyle Lab returns in Season 1 with a few changes. Eligible items will already include some PlayStyles, allowing players to customize only part of the card instead of starting from scratch. EA also confirmed that some PlayStyles will require more effort to unlock than others.
The developer also said it will continue adjusting the balance between Evolution-upgraded players and items earned through the Transfer Market, Objectives, and other FUT rewards, with more details to be shared closer to launch.
We know that for many players, Evos are their favorite part of FUT. For some, they may even be THE main reason they play.
At the same time, as we reflect on FC26, it’s clear that Evos were too strong at several points in the year compared to other ways of earning items, such as Campaign Squads, the Transfer Market, OBJs, the Seasonal Ladder, and SBCs.
For example, when we launched TOTS in FC26, many players felt underwhelmed because they already had extremely strong Evo’d items in their squads.
A focus for the team this year will be making sure Evos are better balanced against other ways of earning and upgrading items.
That does not mean players won’t be able to use Evos to create items with powerful boosts.
However, we are broadly considering a few key changes:
1. At any given time, players will still be able to create powerful items through Evos, but the number of Evo items that can reach the level of top-tier campaign items will be meaningfully lower than in FC26
2. We are likely to use position-specific requirements more frequently to reduce how often players can create perfectly well-rounded items by applying boosts that do not fit the archetype of that position, such as defensive boosts on attackers
3. We are also likely to directionally increase the Coin or engagement requirements for Evos that produce especially powerful items so that the investment required to produce a powerful item in Evos is more comparable to the cost in other areas of the game.
4. There are likely to be fewer Evos that provide significant upgrades without increasing an item’s OVR.
To summarize, the goal is to bring Evos into better balance with the rest of FUT. Players will still be able to create compelling items with Evos and bring a full squad up to a reasonably competitive level, but our intention is not for Evos to consistently sit at the bleeding edge of the power curve across a high volume of Evos (e.g., a full squad of power curve pushing Evos).
