Changing hairstyles in Grand Theft Auto VI will have gameplay implications beyond character customization. According to Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson, changing your hair alters your appearance and can make part of a police description no longer match. However, it won't be enough to escape detection if officers still know what you're wearing.
In an interview with IGN, Nelson explained that changing hair alone is not particularly effective when a character remains in plain sight. If the police have already identified an outfit, players will need to change their clothes as well. This makes switching outfits another important consideration when trying to escape a pursuit.

Haircuts and Salons Across Leonida
Players will be able to make limited changes to their hair at safehouses, including cutting it shorter or shaving it off. For a wider selection of hairstyles, they will need to visit salons spread throughout Leonida. Each location will offer regular cuts alongside signature styles available only at specific establishments.
Sara's Unisex Salon, included among the Ultimate Edition's special destinations, will offer signature styles for both protagonists, facial hair options for Jason, and makeup and nail customization for Lucia.
Rockstar also considered a hair-growth system similar to the one featured in Red Dead Redemption 2 but ultimately decided against it. Players won't have to wait for their hair to grow back, as they can choose their preferred length and style at a salon.
Changing Your Appearance to Escape the Police
GTA 6 puts greater emphasis on how players respond when the police are searching for them. Getting away may require more than switching vehicles or finding a place to hide. Changing your hairstyle and replacing a compromised outfit can help you stop matching the description officers have received.
These mechanics make appearance customization more than a cosmetic feature, adding another layer of strategy to police pursuits in Vice City and the surrounding areas.
