GTA VI Reportedly Requires PS5 Firmware 14.10 or Newer

October 04, 2026

Grand Theft Auto VI reportedly requires PlayStation 5 system software version 14.10 or newer, according to a datamine of PlayStation Store backend data attributed to PlayStation Game Size. The information has not been officially confirmed by Rockstar Games or Sony.

🔒GTA VI Could Leave PS5 Jailbreak Users Behind

If the reported requirement remains in place for launch, PS5 consoles running older firmware used by jailbreak setups would not be able to run GTA VI without updating. The currently supported Relapse jailbreak targets PS5 firmware versions up to 13.60, putting those systems below the reported firmware requirement for Rockstar's upcoming game.

This creates a significant problem for users who deliberately keep their consoles on older firmware to retain access to homebrew and other jailbreak features. Updating to a newer system version could mean giving up that environment, while staying on older firmware would reportedly prevent GTA VI from running.

Some users have already expressed frustration over having to choose between keeping their current jailbreak setup and playing one of the year's biggest releases. Discussions have even raised the possibility of needing a second PS5 for those who want to keep their original console on older firmware.

🎮The 14.10 Requirement Is Not Official Yet

The 14.10 figure comes from PlayStation Store backend data reportedly identified by PlayStation Game Size. It has not been announced by Rockstar Games or Sony as an official GTA VI system requirement, so the information should currently be treated as a report rather than a confirmed specification.

The same distinction applies to the relationship between Sony's recent firmware updates and the Relapse jailbreak. Relapse supports firmware versions up to 13.60, but there is no official statement from Sony saying that its updates were specifically released to target the jailbreak.

If the reported firmware requirement is ultimately confirmed, GTA VI would join other major PS5 releases that require relatively recent system software, creating another clear dividing line between players who keep their consoles updated and those who remain on older firmware for homebrew purposes.
