The World's Game update is coming to EA FC 26

May 27, 2026

EA has officially revealed the first details for the upcoming EA FC 26 “The World’s Game” Update, a major content drop inspired by the upcoming World Cup celebration. The update introduces gameplay improvements, new national teams, fresh Ultimate Team content, and a free evolvable ICON player for all users. According to the newly released Pitch Notes, the update focuses on making matches feel faster, more responsive, and more authentic while also expanding the international football atmosphere across multiple game modes.

🌍 48-Team Tournament and Licensed National Teams

EA Sports confirmed that The World’s Game mode launching on 4 June will feature a full 48-team standalone international tournament structure inspired by the upcoming World Cup format. Players will compete through three group stage matches, with the top two teams from each group advancing alongside the eight best third-placed nations before entering the knockout rounds starting from the Round of 32.

The mode will include dozens of fully licensed national teams such as Argentina, Brazil, England, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Uruguay, Mexico, and the United States, among many others. EA also noted that Bosnia & Herzegovina and Congo DR will initially use generic kits, with authentic uniforms planned for a future update.

The updated team selection screen organizes nations into Groups A through L while displaying team ratings and tournament progression details to recreate the atmosphere of a real international competition.

🏆 Ultimate Team Festival of Football Begins

EA Sports confirmed that The World’s Game Update will bring major changes to Football Ultimate Team starting on June 4. The Festival of Football event introduces new Evolutions systems, special Tokens rewards, themed campaigns, and a dedicated Event Hub designed around international football.

The event will feature weekly content updates, special Player Items, Objectives, Squad Building Challenges, and gameplay rewards inspired by community feedback to offer players more freedom when building their squads during the summer season.

👑 Free 93 OVR ICON Pelé Evolution

One of the biggest highlights of the update is a free 93-rated Festival of Football ICON Pelé available simply by logging into Ultimate Team during the event. Players will also receive three “Choose Your Journey” Evolutions, allowing Pelé to evolve into different roles including striker, playmaker, or winger builds with unique PlayStyles+ abilities.

EA stated that Pelé’s progression path celebrates his legendary 1970 international performances, with upgrades inspired by key tournament moments.

🔄 Evolution Undo and PlayStyles Lab Introduced

EA Sports is finally introducing an Evolution Undo system, allowing players to fully reset Evolutions applied to cards in their club. Tradable cards will also regain their tradable status after being reset.

The update also introduces the new PlayStyles Lab, giving players more control over choosing PlayStyles and PlayStyles+ upgrades for selected Evolutions. According to EA, this feature was heavily inspired by community feedback requesting more customization freedom inside Ultimate Team.

In addition, a new Evo Repeatables system will allow users to earn additional Evolution entries through future Festival of Football content.

🎟️ New Tokens System Changes FUT Rewards

The World’s Game Update introduces Festival of Football Tokens, a brand-new reward currency earned through Rivals, Squad Battles, Rush, Live Events, Objectives, and Squad Building Challenges.

EA confirmed that Tokens will become the primary progression system for FUT rewards during Season 8, allowing players to unlock rewards regardless of which mode they prefer to play.

Players will be able to spend Tokens in a dedicated store containing packs, Evolutions, cosmetic content, and special player rewards. However, EA noted that users will not be able to unlock everything, encouraging more meaningful progression choices throughout the ev
ent.

🌍 Journey of Nations Event Hub

Festival of Football will also introduce Journey of Nations, a new Event Hub featuring more than 250 international-themed challenges spread across five regions: North America, Asia & Oceania, Africa, South America, and Europe.

Each weekly chapter will focus on iconic football nations, legendary players, and rising stars while rewarding players with exclusive Ultimate Team content.

⭐ New ICONS and Over 100 International Players

EA Sports revealed that more than 100 new international players will be added to the FUT player pool during the Festival of Football event.

The update will also introduce two brand-new ICONS: Brazilian legend Rivellino and Argentine World Cup hero Mario Kempes. Both players will debut with special Greats of the Game versions before their base ICON cards become available later in June.

🔥 Five Major FUT Campaigns Confirmed

EA also announced five major Ultimate Team campaigns scheduled throughout the Festival of Football season. These include Path To Glory, Greats of the Game, Glory Hunters, Phenoms, and Summer Stars.

Each campaign will focus on different themes ranging from live international upgrades and legendary footballers to emerging young talents and customizable PlayStyle content.

Additional recurring programs such as Showdowns, Star Performers, and National Pride promotions will also be released throughout the event.

⚙️ Major Gameplay Balance Changes Confirmed

EA Sports has detailed several important gameplay balancing adjustments coming with The World’s Game Update, focusing on PlayStyles, defensive pressure mechanics, and physical duels after extensive community feedback.

💪 Bruiser PlayStyle Rebalanced

Following complaints that shoulder challenges felt too powerful, EA confirmed that the Bruiser and Bruiser+ PlayStyles have been adjusted to create fairer physical battles between defenders and dribblers.

The update slightly reduces the shoulder challenge boost provided by Bruiser while also giving players with Enforcer or Enforcer+ improved resistance during physical duels.

EA also improved collision realism so challenge outcomes now depend more naturally on Strength ratings and PlayStyle advantages. Stronger defenders can still overpower weaker attackers, but agile dribblers now have a better chance to recover possession after contact.

Additional improvements were made to prevent unrealistic shoulder tackles from behind, while a visual issue related to the Bruiser+ icon was also fixed.

🛡️ Intercept PlayStyle Expanded

EA Sports also updated the Intercept PlayStyle to make defensive attributes more important overall. Players without the Intercept PlayStyle but with 90+ Interceptions ratings will now be able to access similar interception animations previously exclusive to the PlayStyle itself.

According to EA, the goal is to preserve the value of PlayStyles while allowing elite defensive stats to feel more impactful during gameplay.

📉 Team Press Nerfed After Community Feedback

One of the biggest gameplay adjustments targets the heavily used Team Press tactic. EA confirmed that AI defenders will apply less aggressive pressure in defensive areas of the pitch in order to encourage more tactical variety.

AI teammates will no longer constantly double-team the ball carrier when the user is already controlling a nearby defender, and defensive marking will become less intense as attackers move closer to goal.

However, Team Press will remain highly aggressive in the attacking half, where AI defenders will continue applying strong pressure and contextual double-teams similar to the current system.
