For some unexplainable reason, the PC version of NBA 2K12 doesn't update the rosters automatically like last year. You have to actually delete any Roster files and restart the game for it to download the latest roster. So to rid you of the -small- trouble of finding the files and renaming/deleting them, I've created a few .bat files which should do that automatically. Note that this tool only hides the Roster files from the game until it updates the default roster, it doesn't delete them, so you'll get your custom rosters back after the default one has updated.
refresh_roster.bat
Renames the original roster from Roster.ROS to Roster.ORB, thus keeping a backup of it but not allowing the game to find it. Also renames any remaining custom rosters from *.ROS to *.CRB. This way it forces the game to download the latest roster. You'll have to use enable_custom_rosters.bat after the game reaches the main menu to get your custom rosters back in the Load/Save screen.
enable_custom_rosters.bat
Use this after reaching the Main Menu in the game after a roster refresh, to get your custom rosters to show up in the Load/Save screen again.
refresh_roster_and_start.bat Recommended
Does what refresh_roster.bat does, starts the game (you'll need to edit the file to point it to the folder you've installed the game into), and waits for you to press Enter to enable the custom rosters again. You use it by starting it, letting the game start, finish loading and refreshing the roster, and once you reach the Main Menu, you Alt-Tab out of the game and press Enter. Then, Alt-Tab back into the game, go to Options > Load/Save > Load Roster, and load your custom roster if you want.
By using this each time to start the game instead of the regular shortcut, you make sure you have the latest roster every time.
refresh_roster_and_start_steam.bat Recommended
Does what refresh_roster_and_start.bat does, but is compatible with the Steam version of the game. You don't need to point it to the path that Steam or the game is installed.
By using this each time to start the game instead of the regular shortcut, you make sure you have the latest roster every time.
restore_original.bat
Restores the backup of the official roster this tool keeps whenever you try to refresh it. Use this if the refresh failed and you end up with an older roster.
Installation
1. Extract any of the files you want to use (choose by reading the descriptions above), in any folder.
2. Start the tool by double-clicking on the file.
FAQ
Q: Do I need to select Options > Reset Roster before/after using this tool?
A: No.
Q: Can I refresh the roster while already in the game, without exiting and restarting it?
A: No. In order for the Roster to be refreshed, the game needs to go through its boot-up sequence. So trying to refresh the roster while the game's running won't work. To get the latest roster, exit the game, and start it again using any of the recommended options above.
Q: What happens if my internet connection fails or the 2K Servers are down when I use your tool?
A: The game will automatically recreate the Roster.ROS (official roster) file either from the latest Roster it got from the servers, or if that's not possible, from the original retail roster. If the game can't find the latest downloaded roster and instead reloads the retail one, you can always restore the backup of the latest roster this tool keeps when you try to refresh by using restore_original.bat.
